Yay, Newgrounds needs more Star Trek stuff

I've been thinking about this a lot, the reason I keep coming back to Newgrounds after all these years. I've talked to people who have no idea Newgrounds still exists because they think it's just some relic of their childhood in the early 2000s, but it's still going strong. To me, Newgrounds is a refuge from the spamification of the Internet. It's avoided all the algorithmic antagonism outlined in The Social Dilemma. I think staying under the radar works to its benefit. No one has a motive to pollute Newgrounds with soulless automated garbage because there's no profit to be made from that. The things people post on Newgrounds are the things they wanted to make, which is the only way art can truly exist. Newgrounds is unique. The front page submissions are handpicked by human beings. The founder of Newgrounds personally writes eulogies for members who didn't even make a single submission. Can you imagine people like Zuckerberg or Bezos caring that much? It's ironic that Newgrounds has a dystopian warzone theme because it's the least dystopian place on the Internet

Does A.I. stand for Adobe Illustrator?

Aww I wish there was a happy ending

This just makes me feel like I'm not in on whatever the joke is

JuneSSantos responds:

Moushley is barely even a joke, so you're not that far from getting it, bud!

Alex Jones did warn us about those chemicals in the water

Wow, I can't believe this has so few views! It must have been frontpaged for less than a day or something

There is no heterosexual explanation for this

Wait but what's your method for doing the enhanced shimmering effect?

Emrox responds:

draw a few dots or whatever random pattern, cut off the sides to make it rectangular, then convert to bitmap, then break apart, then eyedropper tool the broken apart bitmap to get a repeating bitmap fill that you can apply to stuff

THEN add an outline to your drawing with the ink bottle tool (convert lines to fills before this step, if the drawing involves lines already) and color the new outline to be the repeating bitmap fill. Then you should be able to see that making adjustments with the gradient transform tool starts to give the shimmering effect. To animate it in the timeline, you make two keyframes with the gradient transform set to different positions and then shape tween them

(as I said in the video, it's a fairly involved process! Getting shape tweens involved might even be impractical for a lot of uses, but it's definitely useful in some very specific cases)

also: the effect only really works with 1-2 pixel weight lines, extend it too far and then the trick becomes a little too obvious and the illusion breaks

This is Miyazaki-esque. I'm guessing Ghibli is an inspiration of yours. I'm very impressed

Nyaarg.
