I think there's some disparity between the era of film noir and the era of greasers.

A disparity between the eras or as a genre? Greaser subculture originated during the same time (Film Noir - 1940's to late 1950's and Greasers in the 1950's). It's a dark world for both and there is crime and an urban setting.

To those complaining about how cruel the world of Pencilmation is, let me explain what this is all about. We're not supposed to laugh at his misfortune out of schadenfreude. In this case, we're supposed to identify with the character's plight. It's supposed to be funny in the sense of "oh that happens to me all the time."
