Nice collab

Good to see the artsy Newgrounds bunch at work.

And folks, the secret medal is an invisible Easter egg in the main menu.

Beautifully done

Just when you think you've played the most sentimental game ever you come across something like this.

That's not how ice works!

I was halfway through the lost levels before I realized that you can jump while falling.

The lost levels actually aren't that hard. Nothing compared to say MoneySeize or Meatboy. They're not even that hard compared to the campaign levels. I got third place in them, but unfortunately you can't even view the high scores without beating it.

Very nice

The excellent visuals really carry this game. I kind of agree with the accusations of it being repetitive, but that's why every level has custom-tailored waves of enemies to mix things up as much as possible. Also referring to vgthing's review, this game DOES stand out because of how customizable your weapons are. You can have any combination of weapons pointed in any direction you like.

Some of the enemies are a little obnoxious though. I mean it's bad enough to have enemies flying in from behind you so that you can't stay at the bottom, but then you have enemies that literally appear out of nowhere right on top of you. I still see it as just part of the challenge, though.

Collected all medals and for the final world I'm in 1st for today and 4th for all time.

Nice game

In the room where the guy says there's no turning back, there's a passage into a room to the left. But then in that next room you can't proceed without a balloon, and there's no way to get a balloon in there. What's the deal? The walkthrough made no mention of it.

Droqen responds:

You can grab a balloon from any blue guy by holding the grab balloon button :)

EDIT ::

Ah, my bad. -Tricks-.

Very addicting

How many planets are there in the solar system anyway?

The award that says you need to land on a certain number of moons actually means you need to get that many distant moon bonuses, right? Meaning you can't just land on them, you need to land on them from a long distance away. And you should probably explain that moons are just the smallest kind of planet. The Earth's moon therefore is not an example of a moon in the game.

And how do you get the wrong way medal? You can't launch the wrong way, so I guessed you had to slingshot yourself to fly the wrong way. I tried that and it didn't work. So then I thought maybe you had to fly the wrong way and land. I tried that and it still didn't work. So how do you get it?

The bullet ship is useless because its increased gravity still maintains the same range as the gravity for the other ships.

Nice

@antanas: No, you idiot. In Karoshi you're trying to kill yourself, not get to a checkpoint. By your standards ever platformer is a copy of every other platformer.

Anyway, this game is in desperate need of saving. The game glitched when I fell down a pitfall where some platforms were rising and it wouldn't kill me or let me do anything. I mean you don't even have to save cookies or anything. Just let the player resume at their level after quitting. Even a restart level button would suffice.

I can't believe these bad reviews

Yes, it's glitchy but the 3D game engine more than makes up for it. I mean come on. Show me one other Flash game that even comes close to what this game has accomplished.

Make your complaints but at least give it a score that reflects the brilliant work that was put into this game.

Plenty of issues

1. There are so many games just like this.
2. That's definitely the wrong genre. This is not a point 'n click adventure.
3. There are buttons on the screen which prevent you from using that space to make your shots. I know the buttons kind of need to be there, but make like a well defined menu bar so people can be sure exactly where they can't click. The hit areas aren't obvious enough.
4. Since this is supposed to be about gravitation and physics and stuff, consider allowing the player to make shots off the stage. If you make it a hold and release thing, Flash can detect where the mouse when it's off the stage.
5. You lose points for linking away when the player just wants to see the achievements. Sorry, sometimes sponsorships cost you players' enjoyment.
6. There needs to be an ending. It doesn't have to be much. Just the word "congratulations" is better than nothing.

Anyway, I agree with the other guy. The music is what carries this game.

Easily the best Castleroid Flash game ever made

You mean to tell me you drew and programmed this game and composed the music as well? That's unbelievable! And this is your first Flash game? If you've made more, where are they? Whatever happened to starting small? This game is a monster, and it's expertly and beautifully made.

I was hard-pressed to find any glitches. In the first room of Mare Carelia, there are some invisible blocks in the upper right area that I don't think were supposed to be there. If you try flying through that room you'll probably hit them. Also if you become a shell in order to fall into a one block wide hole, you'll become stuck and have to load your game. Also, sometimes jumping against a wall looking for secrets and stuff, I'd land on the wall as though it were a floor. It might be the code that makes you stick to a wall just not rotating you the right way all the time, or it might be simple collision detection sensing a block underneath you and letting you stand with just your "toe" on it even though there's another block above it.

Anyway, there is no end to the good things I have to say about this game. It's a masterpiece. Well done.

auriplane responds:

The second and third thing you said are glitches, but the first was on purpose--the clouds are a path to the helix above the first room :-) It could probably be called a design flaw, instead, since several people were confused by it.

And thanks! It's my first Flash game, but I've been programming for something like twenty years, and I've also written a zillion terrible songs over the years, so it's not like this is the first thing I've ever done :-) I made lots of stupid C64 and DOS games when I was little, but I spent most of the last ten years doing boring web stuff, so I thought it'd be fun to make a game again now that I'm a bit better at programming. I'm going to make more! :-D
